On Thursday evening we enjoyed an evening of ‘Poppies & Prosecco’ at Fika in Oakham.
The event was part of the Rutland Poppy Project – a community art project to create an installation of ceramic poppies in the grounds of Oakham Castle to commemorate the the centenary of the end of World War I, which will be on display during October and November this year.
Many organisations are taking part, including schools, businesses and community groups. Individuals are able to contribute, too, by attending events such as the one we joined at Fika.
A warm welcome awaited all guests at Fika, where lots of clay and volunteers were on hand to get us started! It was a lovely evening, we made about 5 or 6 poppies each – it’s amazing how different they all looked, despite having templates and instructions to follow!
We’ll certainly be on the look-out for more sessions and we can’t wait to see all the poppies together in the castle grounds!
Thank you to Fika on Mill Street in Oakham for hosting such a lovely evening.
