Our First B.A.I.T. Footwear Shoes

We kept seeing photos of vintage style outfits with wonderful shoes… it didn’t take long to track down that these shoes were from the American company B.A.I.T. Footwear.

We searched and searched for a UK shop offering B.A.I.T, but no luck, so we took the plunge and placed an order with B.A.I.T. direct – we are so pleased we did.

Our first BAIT Footwear Shoes
Robbie, Bloom, Blanca & Ida

We ordered 4 pairs between us…

Robbie in Cream for Siobhan, she is going to be a bridesmaid for her sister this summer and these will be the perfect accessory for her dark blue Collectif dress and petticoat 🙂

Lisa was greedy and ordered 3 pairs! Ida in Dusty Blue, Bloom in Yellow and Blanca in Mint.

See more details of each in the photos section towards the bottom of this page.

Sizing takes a little guess work…

We’re both a UK size 5 (38), and while B.A.I.T. suggest you go for a US size 7.5 as a size 38 equivalent, we opted for US size 8 as Lisa has had American size 8s before and they fit very well, plus there are some good blog posts that talk about B.A.I.T.’s sizing and often sizing up.

Lisa has quite fat feet (usually between a standard and a wide fit) and Siobhan has very slim feet.  Lisa did ok with a US 8 – Ida and Blanca were perfect, Bloom could have been a 7.5 – if she goes for the pink pair, it’ll be a 7.5!  For Siobhan the 8 was slightly too big and needs padding out with an insole – next time she’ll be trying a 7.5 – she has her eye on Robbie in Red and Ione in Red, too.

On the B.A.I.T. website, each shoe style’s description does let you know about the type of fit and whether to size up – we certainly feel more confident about sizing now we’ve tried some.

Pricing is a consideration…

The price of the shoes themselves is excellent, however shipping to the UK is quite high – it worked out at $60 for a 4-pair order, but if you are ordering just one pair you’ll be paying $35 – so do keep an eye on shipping before you check out.  One excellent benefit though is that it has full tracking, so you know exactly where your package is.

You must also remember customs charges and VAT – this charge is collected by the delivery company, in our case it was Parcelforce.  They will send you a bill, which must be paid before your package is released for delivery.  Our 4-pair order was £70 and covered customs (about £16), VAT (about £45) and the Parcelforce admin fee.

So, totalled up, for each pair of shoes we paid approximately £65 – £75.  We think this is still great value, B.A.I.T. have some brilliant styles and are very well made – we were very pleased when we saw them (we may have squealed!) and knew we’d made the right decision 🙂

We want more!

We love our shoes, and we’ll definitely be placing more orders in the future…
