We were catching up with a dear friend today, so decided to head to Barnsdale Lodge for a special treat of afternoon tea…
Barnsdale Lodge is a very relaxing place to be and we’ve enjoyed many a lunch here in the past, but until today we had never tried their afternoon tea – or should I say ‘teas’?! They have a number of options to choose from, including a classic cream tea, their traditional ‘Farmhouse Tea’, champagne afternoon tea and a gentleman’s afternoon tea.
Staff were very friendly, and with a wedding in the barn and a special event in the conservatory in full swing, they gave us the option of taking tea in the garden room, dining room or courtyard – we chose the garden room, which is bright and airy, very comfortable with chairs and squooshy sofas, and looks out onto the peaceful blooming courtyard.
Huge pots of tea and coffee were brought to us straight away while we chose which afternoon tea option we’d like – we chose the Champagne Afternoon Tea (well, what else?!). The barman quickly brought our champagne, then our food arrived on the traditional tiered plate stands 🙂
For each of us there were four finger sandwiches (salmon and cucumber, beef and horseradish, ham and mustard and egg mayonnaise), a fruit scone with clotted cream, jam and delicious lemon curd, a cream slice, lemon drizzle cake and a lemon posset.
It was the perfect amount – we ate everything, but did not need more and did not feel uncomfortably stuffed!
Thank you, Barnsdale Lodge – I’m sure we’ll be back!

We both wore Vivien of Holloway dresses – Lisa wore a bombshell dress and Siobhan a sarong dress and matching bolero.
