2019 Charity Challenges

The past year has been an incredibly difficult and emotional time for us both, with the loss of Siobhan’s brother Kevin and Lisa’s Dad Terry.

Through the difficult times and our grief we continue to find the strength to support each other and those around us as best we can and, despite our own struggles, we recognise the kindness that others give that we can all too easily take for granted.

During 2019 we want to repay and encourage kindness by raising money and awareness for three fantastic charities to ensure those in need are able to have access to the support and information available to them during difficult times. We have a number of challenges and events planned throughout 2019 to do this!

Planned and completed so far:

Date to be confirmed: Conquering Snowdon!

January – we completed a Winter 10k walk (14km was our actual distance!) in memory of all those no longer with us; RED January – move every day and hit our daily target.

February – ‘Time to Talk’ Day; Siobhan will be completing the ‘Fly Like An Eagle’ Half Marathon.

March – Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal, including a 28km Rutland Water hike for the Daffodil Dash and being collection volunteers in Oakham.

April – Virtual London Marathon!

May – Miles for Mind (25 running miles) and Mental Health Awareness Week

October – World Mental Health Day

December – Santa Fun Run

Throughout 2019 – Lisa is aiming for 3,650,000 steps (10,000 steps a day) and two Parkruns a month; Siobhan is aiming for 2019 miles (5.5 miles a day); we’ll continue our monthly foodbank shopping for Rutland Foodbank.

The charities we have chosen are:

Mind – the mental health charity: advice and support for anyone experiencing mental health problems and campaigning to improve services and understanding. A great source of information and support for many of our family members and ourselves.

Marie Curie: care and support for people living with terminal illness and their families. Marie Curie provided exceptional overnight nursing care for Lisa’s Dad in his last days.

The Trussell Trust: a network of over 400 foodbanks providing emergency food and support to people in crisis. We also directly support our local foodbank (Rutland) with a monthly shop.  If you’d like to donate to our monthly shop instead please contact us as that fund is separate to the donation page.
